Buffalo Bill's Wild West Feast, featuring Steve Friesen and the Galloping Gourmet

Join us at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West on August 23rd at 6pm for an unforgettable dinner event based on the meals and menus of Buffalo Bill's Wild West!

Step into Buffalo Bill's dinner tent and taste for yourselves some of the foods he made available to his friends, family, and fans.

This western feast will be followed by a presentation from Steve Friesen, author of Galloping Gourmet: Eating and Drinking with Buffalo Bill. Friesen will offer unique insights into Buffalo Bill's Wild West and the food that fueled the Congress of Rough Riders of the World.

Tickets to this event include a copy of Friesen's book, Galloping Gourmet: Eating and Drinking with Buffalo Bill, a one-of-a-kind dinner curated from the menus of Buffalo Bill himself, and a talk from Steve Friesen on the research and recipes of the Wild West.

Participants are encouraged to attend this event in their best Western attire!

Deluxe Tours and Toddies: The Summer of 1876 with Chris Wimmer

Join Exclusive Tours and "Legends of the Old West" podcast hosts Chris Wimmer and sister Mandi Wimmer on August 2nd at 6pm for a Deluxe Tours and Toddies!

Guests at this special program will embark on a journey filled with mystery, intrigue, and larger-than-life legends as we explore the Center of the West's collection and delve deeper into the history of the infamous summer of 1876 in the American West.

During this program, guests will explore the notorious summer of 1876 and related artifacts from our Center's collection.

Chris and Mandi will also discuss their work on the "Legends of the Old West" podcast, including a recent season that featured our own William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody and the legends of his life.

Tickets include custom charcuterie, homemade desserts, adult beverages, a Q&A with Chris and Mandi, and a paperback copy of The Summer of 1876.

Geology Field Trip - Mesozoic Era!

During this trip, we investigate the over 200 million years when dinosaurs ruled the land and giant reptiles ruled the inland seas. Topics will include local Mesozoic geology as it relates to the petroleum industry; the extinction event that opened a world of opportunity for mammals; the greatest landslide in Earth's history; and the reign of the dinosaurs, for which the Mesozoic is probably best known. $65 for members and students and $85 for non-members. Transportation is provided. This field trip is limited to a maximum of eight people, so register as soon as possible to secure your spot.

 

Kurt Swanson Bucholz Arsenals of History Symposium

This 3-day symposium features speakers from around the world and will focus on firearms history, museum practice, and ongong research within the field. Registration includes 26 presentations and lunch each day with the first presentation at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 28 and the last at 3:45 p.m. on Friday, August 30. Registration costs $150 and is only open to museum professionals and firearms researchers.

The Art of Angling (4th-8th Grade)

July 29- Aug 1; 4th - 8th Grade

Join us July 29-August 1st, where we will be exploring the ecosystem of trout, mastering knots and casting techniques, trying our hands at fly tying, and embracing the ethics of responsible fishing. through interactive demonstrations and guided sessions, students will acquire the skills and knowledge to be proficient anglers. From reading the water to selecting the correct fly, and possibly even catching a trout, this program will give you the basics to get on the water. Get ready to reel in the excitment this summer!

Birds, Bats, and Bugs (K-2nd Grade)

Calling all young explorers from Kindergarten to 2nd grade to join us for an unforgettable journey with Birds, Bats, and Bugs. Through a variety of activities, students will uncover the secrets of these crazy creatures. Students will learn about their habitats, behaviors, and the importance in our ecosystem. Get ready to spread your wings as we dive into the world of Birds, Bats, and Bugs!
