Women's hands helped shape the American West in more ways than one!
Join Exclusive Tours on Friday, March 7 at 6pm for a Tours & Toddies celebrating Women's Handwork in the West. Women across the globe used their hands to create clothing, art, and tools throughout the ages. From frontier quilts to delicate embroidery, let's explore how women s handwork wove the story of the American West.
Women's handwork in the American West is a rich topic that laces together themes of survival, community, artistry, and economic independence. Often equal parts utilitarian as well as decorative, handwork traditions in threadwork, beadwork, and animal wools hold hidden histories that take a keen eye to unravel.
During this Exclusive Tours & Toddies, guests will trace the threads of handwork history through the Buffalo Bill Museum and Plains Indian Museum collections. Discover storytelling through stitching and generations of textile traditions during this evening's premium program!
Whether you like star quilts or tatted lace, the handwork of both native and pioneer women remains some of the most impressive creations in the Center of the West's collection. Participants at this evening s program will end their tour in the Levin Research Room to view treasures from our own Center of the West vaults, including several artifacts not seen by members of the public in many years.
Following the tour, Exclusive Tours staff will bring the group back to the Exclusive Tours Depot for Q&A, custom charcuterie, and adult beverages. Guests can enjoy our sweet baklava and toast to women s handwork in the west with our special "Odds Bodkin" cocktail.
